The Scraggly and Junior Lakes will serve as the scenic location for this trip. Located in eastern Maine these lakes are connected to a series of lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands. The shores, combined with the well forested uplands and the presence of several small marshes and wetlands, provide a diverse range of habitats that host more than 200 of Maine's indigenous species of wildlife. The lake and ponds offer excellent habitat for lake trout, bass, whitefish, perch, and Atlantic salmon.
This is not just a canoeing trip; we will focus on a variety of traditional crafts. We will teach natural basket making, creating rope with natural material, wilderness awareness, stalking, tracking, shelter building, and fire making. Spending time in the wilderness brings us closer to nature, we will also plan to do some guided wilderness meditation activities as well. We will sing, play, swim, create art, paddle, eat, and enjoy each other’s company.
This is a four-day small-group adventure-based trip. Our group size will be limited to no more than 10 people, and participants are actively involved with all aspects of the trip, including daily planning, cooking, decision making, risk management, and other camp-related activities.
Our campsites will be nestled close to the water’s edge with ample opportunities for sitting in a hammock, swimming, bird watching, and stargazing Maine’s undisturbed night sky. Campsites are rustic with a fire pit, outhouse, and picnic tables. We will set up tents and a kitchen area each night. Together we will prepare food over campfires or camp stoves. The menu will consist of wholesome and delicious foods. All dietary needs are considered when planning the menu.
