Lobster Lake and Penobscot River Trip
Date: August 9, 2024, beginning at 9:00 AM - August 12, 2024, finishes at 5:00 PM
at Lobster Lake and West Branch of the Penobscot River
Join us for this amazing adventure to the North Woods of Maine to Lobster Lake and the West Branch of the Penobscot River. This is a great trip for those who have never paddled before. We will spend time teaching paddle strokes and all other canoe skills. The first night, we will spend time going over all camp skills such as setting up tents, kitchen, using stoves, water purification, and Leave No Trace ethics.
We will start our travels at Lobster Stream. We will paddle south to Lobster Lake where we will camp at one of the many campsites along the shoreline. We will spend two nights in Lobster. For those wanting an adventure, we will take the opportunity to hike Lobster Mountain which overlooks the lake and has spectacular views. On the third day we will travel North back in Lobster Stream to the West Branch of the Penobscot River where we will spend two nights before exiting into Chesuncook Lake and then Chesuncook Village.
The West Branch of the Penobscot River is an excellent option for those unfamiliar with river paddling. There is quick water near Big Island with plenty of miles of meandering water. The river is noted for its serenity, wildness, and tranquility.
During this trip, we will sing, play, swim, create art, paddle, eat, and enjoy each other’s company. We plan on sharing some traditional crafts which could include natural basket making, creating rope with natural material, and wrapping rocks and gems. Spending time in the wilderness brings us closer to nature. We will also plan to do some guided wilderness meditation activities as well.
This is a four-day, small group, adventure-based trip. Our group size will be limited to no more than 10 people, and participants are actively involved with all aspects of the trip, including daily planning, cooking, decision making, risk management, and other camp-related activities.
Our campsites will be nestled close to the river’s edge with ample opportunities for sitting in a hammock, swimming, bird watching, and stargazing Maine’s undisturbed night sky. Campsites are rustic with a fire pit, outhouse, and picnic tables. We will set up tents and a kitchen area each night. Together we will prepare food over campfires or camp stoves. The menu will consist of wholesome and delicious foods. All dietary needs are considered when planning the menu.
$750 Fee Covers: all group camping gear, canoes, paddles, camping and road fees, food, and two Licensed Maine Recreational Guides.
