Introduction to Backpacking
Dates: August 18, 2023, beginning at 1:00 PM - August 20, 2023, finishes at 5:00 PM
at Camden Hills State Park
Travel to Camden Hills Starte Park where we will backpack just over 2 miles to the rustic Megunticook Ski Lodge on Spring Brook. Camden Hills State Park has over 30 miles of hiking trails. We will spend the weekend going over outdoor camping skills and exploring the park. Exploring trails and breath-taking views of the landscape and Penobscot Bay.
We will go over various skills needed for backpacking including menu planning, cooking over campfire and camp stoves, hanging bear bags, water purification, map and compass skills, basic first aid, and leave no trace skills. A great introduction for anyone ready to begin their wilderness journey.
This is a three-day small-group adventure-based trip. Our group size will be limited to no more than 10 people, and participants are actively involved with all aspects of the trip, including daily planning, cooking, decision making, risk management, and other camp-related activities.
Participants will either stay in tents or in the cabin. We will cook over campfire and camp stoves. The menu will consist of wholesome and delicious foods. All dietary needs are considered when planning the menu.
Fee per person covers: all group camping gear, equipment, supplies, food, and two Licensed Maine Recreation Guides.
