Introduction to Honey Wine - Augusta, ME

Honey is a decadent sweet treat and when fermented it becomes an incredibly drink known by most as mead. We can look through history and see that mead or honey wine is the world’s oldest alcoholic beverage. In this course, we will learn about the history of mead, students will have a chance to sample mead and honey from around the country and learn the basics of how to make honey wine. Note that we will have about 4-8oz of mead per person throughout the day.

This class is a basic introduction to brewing and fermentation. We will go over the ingredients and equipment used in the making of mead.  Students will go through the process of making mead and making their own one-gallon batch.  The class will go over the fermentation process and how to measure levels of sugar to determine the levels of alcohol.  We will also review the process of sterilizing and bottling.

Each student will walk away from the class with the understanding of the process mead.  All students will receive the following items during class to take home:
One-gallon carboy
Airlock
Hydrometer, cylinder and brush
Ingredients for batch of mead including 3-4lbs of raw honey
Directions and material list on bottling.

This course is intended for beginner home brewers, wine makers, mead makers and any other fermentation hobbyist.  Attending this class will be a great way to learn about this ancient beverage and connect with others, and of course learn a skill for life.

All students must be 21+ ID will be required to attend.
